Participation Of The Private Sector To Achieve The Sustainability Development Goal

It is encouraged for ministries that have National Agenda aims to collaborate closely with business. However, public-private partnerships are increasingly involving data sharing to deliver SMART services, trying to implement the STI framework, resource mobilisation for sustainable development, and joint efforts to engage the public on issues of self-sufficiency. As would be anticipated, such cooperation is most extensive in areas that entail the delivery of core public services, such as education, wellness, infrastructure, municipal services, etc. The National Agenda and local development plans are supported by existing institutional institutions that govern engagement with the business sector to advance the SDGs. New avenues for collaboration are, nevertheless, being investigated. In order to mobilise support for SDG targets highlighted in a given year, federal agencies that are members of the UAE's National Council on SDGs will first interact with relevant industry partners. The National Committee members are free to collaborate with any business sector partners they see fit in order to advance the SDGs.

A second route for public-private partnerships is through the UAE's UN Global Compact Network, which has been especially active in promoting the SDGs and influencing the CSR priorities of companies doing business there. In line with the mission of the UN Global Compact, which is to "mobilise a global movement of sustainable businesses and stakeholders to build the world we want," the network promotes high-impact collective action by assembling taskforces of various companies to address various aspects of the sustainability objectives.

The DLD is the host of the Global Sustainability Network-UAE, which has more than 130 businesses on board who are dedicated to implementing sustainability principles and the Goals in the corporate companies. The network gives large businesses, SMEs, and micro-enterprises the chance to take part in group efforts to accomplish the goals. The American University of Sharjah-UAE, CEO Clubhouse Connection, Chalhoub Group, CTG Global, dU, Habor Realty, Majid Al Futtaim, MENA Properties, Pearl Initiative, and other organisations are represented on the UAE Local Network Board.

UAE SDG Pioneers was also made public by the regional network. UAE SDG Pioneers are businesses that have advanced the SDGs early on and, in doing so, have inspired the business community to pursue sustainable practises.

Under one of the five 2030 Agenda topics of people, peace, prosperity, planet, and partnerships, organisations can apply to be UAE SDG Pioneers. To maintain transparency, KPMG serves as the 3rd party processor under the supervision of an international committee. The Global Pioneers programme will nominate the first group of UAE SDG Pioneers, who were recognised at an event in November 2017.

Conclusion

The United Nations Global Compact Network-UAE holds a celebration event every year to mark its founding. The event showcases regional and international best practises in private sector collaborations for environmental sustainability and offers attendees a forum for discussion, dialogue, and networking opportunities.
